In early November 2024, new homeowners in Erstroff, eastern France, discovered a human skeleton in the attic of an outbuilding during renovation work. The remains are believed to belong to the former owner, who disappeared in 2009 at the age of 81. Despite extensive searches, no trace of him was found, and he was declared legally dead in 2021. The body was found in a concealed space under the roof, accessible only by a nearly invisible trapdoor. A rope attached to a nearby beam suggests the possibility of suicide.
