Many major U.S. retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Target, are increasingly offering "returnless refunds," where customers receive refunds without needing to return the unwanted items. This practice helps retailers reduce shipping and processing costs associated with returns, especially for low-cost or single-use items that are difficult to resell. For example, a $20 T-shirt might incur $30 in shipping and handling costs to process a return.

Volcanic eruption triggers fires, killing at least 10 in Indonesia

Mount Lewotobi Laki Laki on Indonesia's Flores Island erupted, resulting in at least 10 fatalities. The eruption occurred around midnight, spewing thick brownish ash up to 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) into the air. Hot ash and volcanic material were propelled up to 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) from the crater, igniting fires that destroyed homes, including a convent of Catholic nuns. Rescue teams are currently searching for more victims beneath collapsed structures.

First-time homebuyers are older than ever before: National Association of Realtors

The NAR has reported that the median age of first-time homebuyers in the U.S. has reached a record high of 38 years, up from 35 last year. This increase reflects the significant financial challenges prospective buyers face, including rising home prices and high mortgage rates. Despite a $26,000 increase in household income over the past two years, many first-time buyers are delaying homeownership to save for larger down payments and manage existing debts. Additionally, the share of first-time homebuyers has declined to 24%, the lowest since NAR began tracking this data.
