IRS increases retirement plan contribution limits for 2025

Severe storms and tornadoes battered Oklahoma early Sunday, tossing cars and ripping roofs off buildings in the middle of the night and leaving tens of thousands of homes and businesses without power. Among numerous injuries, 11 people required hospitalization, authorities said. Much of the damage occurred in and around the state capital, Oklahoma City, near the state’s center.

Cassius, the world's largest crocodile in captivity, has died at the age of over 110 years. Measuring 5.48 meters (18 feet) and weighing more than a ton, Cassius had been in declining health since October 15th, according to Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat on Green Island, near Cairns, Queensland. Cassius had been a resident at the sanctuary since 1987 after being relocated from the Northern Territory, a region known for its crocodile-based tourism.

BUSINESS

Key changes include:

  • 401(k) Plans: The annual contribution limit will increase by $500, allowing individuals to contribute up to $23,500 in 2025. This adjustment also applies to 403(b) plans, governmental 457 plans, and the federal Thrift Savings Plan.

  • Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs): The annual contribution limit remains unchanged at $7,000. The catch-up contribution limit for individuals aged 50 and over also stays at $1,000.

  • Catch-Up Contributions for 401(k) Plans: For employees aged 50 and above, the catch-up contribution limit remains at $7,500. This means eligible individuals can contribute a total of $31,000 to their 401(k) plans in 2025.

Fresh slivered onions served on McDonald’s Quarter Pounders were the likely source of an E. coli outbreak that has led to one death and illnesses in more than a dozen states, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and US Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday. “It is not necessary to avoid eating onions or other foods made with onions,” the CDC said.
