U.S. NEWS

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is investigating Delta Air Lines for its handling of passengers during a recent technical outage. The investigation was prompted by reports of passengers being left on planes for extended periods in extreme heat, particularly at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Several passengers experienced medical emergencies, and some had to be hospitalized.

The outage, caused by a faulty software update, led to the cancellation of over 3,500 Delta flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. Delta's CEO, Ed Bastian, apologized and stated that the company is cooperating with the investigation while focusing on restoring normal operations. The DOT emphasized that airlines must provide comfortable cabin temperatures and timely disembarkation during such delays.

Social Security benefits have lost 20% of their purchasing power since 2010 due to inflation, according to the Senior Citizens League. With inflation outpacing COLAs, retirees are struggling financially. The 2025 COLA is projected to be 2.63%, lower than the current inflation rate of 3%, potentially exacerbating the issue. This situation poses significant challenges for many Americans' retirement plans.
